When to remove chicks? At leat 10 chicks so far! New Pics

Thanks again for the replies! This is the first time I've hatched chicks since I was a wee little thing with my mother, and add on that these BSLs are the offspring of my own chickens I raised from feed store chicks, its very very exciting!

Must . . . not . . . touch!

The one that has almost gotten out, poor baby is kicking so hard and still hasn't gotten free! He looks stuck . . .

MUST NOT TOUCH!

I will take out any fluffy buggers on Sunday morning. Here's hoping for more pips! I've got a nice lovely brooder box just a'waiting for them.

I've learned the hard way to keep the door shut until all are hatched... never open it if one has pipped...

Thanks! I am absolutely not touching.

The second baby looks so stuck though! His little head is underneath himself and he keeps on kicking but hasn't gotten free. Does it often take a long time for them to get free from the egg?

I wish I could remember all this stuff, but I was so young when my mother raised fancy little bantam chickens.

I would let him keep trying for at least a few hours... I know that sounds like a long time but with my first hatch I had one that looked stuck and was taking about 30 mins to get out of it's shell... Well I decided to help and it hadn't fully absorbed it's yolk sack yet and I accidentally killed it... I cried I felt so bad... So just give him a little while longer... If you notice that he really slows down like he is quiting then maybe help at that point... otherwise just keep an eye on him... if he is struggling it's a good thing!

He is peeping loudly and kicking like crazy, so I will wait. Here's hoping he manages to uncurl himself and kick free.

Thanks for asking. My humidity had dropped too low, which is why the baby got stuck. I very carefully removed him and using a warm wet towel I was able to remove the shell and put him back. I also put a warm wet towel into the incubator to bump the humidity.

And this morning we have 7 chicks! 6 BSLs and 1 Rhode Island Red! I can see pips on a couple more eggs as well.

The RIR eggs I bought from a friend, but the 6 BSLs were the products of my own hen, and I got 100% hatch on them!!!

Should I still remove chicks tomorrow morning and move them to the brooder? Dry ones, that is.

There are at least ten hatched now! Pretty good for my first try since I was a little kid, eh? More look to be on their way, too.
