This is my first time raising Turkeys and I will tell you that they are really much sweeter and friendlier than I could have imagined..I will kind of be sad to see them go.

If the Broad Breasted White is already weighing 30 pounds, That is a good weight. They should loose 16 pounds in processing. which would get u at a nice 14 pound bird for thanksgiving. or wait for the BBB to catch up, and get a have the BBW be about 40ish, get a nice 24 lb bird from the BBW and 15- 20 lb BBB. For the Heiratige bird i would process him a different day give him a lot longer time, almost closer to Thanksgiving. His legs wont go bad so he should be ok for the most part, and heritage birds are more immune or tolerant of diseases, so dont worry about sickness. Butcher the Heritage bir and eat it fresh for thanksgiving

Thank you! I got this message the night I sent the 3 BB's to the butcher. :-(

I raised one for my friend at work and two of them were to be mine for Thanksgiving as I'm having a large gathering, I also am using my own potatos, carrots, onions and Butternut squash :)

I am going to try and keep the heritage at a safe weight and have him fresh for Christmas! I wanted all of them fresh but the Broad Breasteds were beginning to get leg problems and I didn't want them to suffer, so frozen will be fine.

If you are interested, I'll let you know what their dressed with turns out to be. I am LOVING this grow my own food thing!

In my embarrassment at calling them Double Breasted, I think I got all out of sorts!

lol I do thank you :)

OK everyone! I picked up the 3 BB's from the Butcher this afternoon. The White BB weighed in after dressing at 24 pounds! She must have been closer to 40 pounds than I thought. The two Bronze BB's weighed in at 18 and 18 1/2.

Not bad!

Thank you

I am actually having the white, I raised one of the Bronze for a friend at work and I still have a Bourbon Red still growing for Christmas.

I may cook the other Bronze at Thanksgiving too because I have a large crowd coming, still haven't decided.
