My chicks are 6 weeks old now and in the hen house. I have been keeping the heat lamp on for them 24/7. When is a good time to turn it off for good? I don't want them to over heat or get to cold either. I am in Indiana. The days are anywhere between 40 and 65 degrees the nights 30-50 degrees. Gotta love Indiana, the weather is never the same very long. Supposed to snow next week.....

I have two lights in my coop for the young ones. One is the heat lamp of 150 watt the other a red bulb of 75 watt. When the heat in the coop builds up I switch lights until I get to just a 25 watt red bulb. Its gradual. they are not fully ready at 6 weeks to give it up. I hope this helps Jean
