Hi everyone! I have 6 chicks (pullets maybe at this point?) that are 6 weeks old tomorrow. Three are dark Brahmas and three are Buff Brahmas (thank you to those who helped me figure this out). I know that Brahmas will lay through the winter, and tend to start laying after at least 6 months, due to late maturity. I would like to know when I should start feeding oyster shell. I know I'm supposed to start feeding at around 6 months, and not until right before they start laying, but I really can't figure out when they'll start laying. Should I expect them to start laying before January and feed oyster shell starting in December, or should I expect it will be at least until spring or early summer? Thanks!

Sorry I just realized this was totally posted in the wrong place. I'll try and figure out how to move it.

I usually start feeding layer feed and offering crushed oyster shell at 20 weeks old. You may notice their combs becoming very red shortly before they lay, and that will be a good sign.
