Moved my chicks out into the coop the other day. They are 6 weeks old. Lock them in at night/
Question is when can I stop heating their coop? What temps can a 6 week chick withstand?
thank you
Ryan
From what I understand most breeds are fully feathered at 6 weeks and that fully feathered chickens can tolerate temps in the 20's as long as they are dry, draft free and can roost together for body heat. I hope so cause mine are out at 5-6 weeks (NOW!) w/ no special treatment for heat. My low's are to be no worse than 40 for the next week but a rainy weekend is on the way!
At six weeks you chicks should be pretty well feathered up, and barring a massive cold front that plunges temps into the sub-zero range, we are officially in Spring, and your chooks should be just fine...
