When to switch?? (stupid newbie question!)

No. Too much calcium is not good for them. Just set out some crushed oyster shell and the one's that need it will eat it. Honest, chickens are smarter than some folks give them credit for. They will eat oyster shell when they need it.

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS CORRECT BUT I FEED MINE BOTH. THE FEED STORE SAID IT WAS OK, BUT THEY GET ALOT OF FRUITS-N-VEGGIES TOO. MIX IT UP.

I'm afraid most feed store employees know little about what's best for chickens. I'd do more research if I were you. There are a lot of good threads on the subject here, on BYC, as well as many University AG program studies. Or you could ask your vet (if the vet is farm animal savvy). I've done a lot of research on the subject but am always open to new findings.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that chickens would gravitate toward the feed that is best for them when they have a choice.
