My babies are 6 weeks old, fully feathered and outside now. Its supposed to be 30 here tomorrow night. Should I turn a light on them? They are Silver Laces Wyandottes.
I would keep them on the light on 30 nights for another week. How many chicks do you have? The more chicks there are, the more they can huddle and share body heat. They should only need it at night though, It will help them wean off the light easier
Let them be your guide. I have five week old buff orps and RSLs that roost on the far end, completely out of the heat lamp. They could go there and be warm. They choose not to. I'd keep it on for my own comfort (I get chills thinking about 30 degrees, let alone being in it) but if the girls all ignore your gift, they are good without it.
