I have a 7 week old Australorp. When I posted a thread about two or three weeks ago, everyone said he was a cockerel. But, his comb and waddles haven't gotten any bigger, and he still isn't making any noise... So I was curious if he was indeed a boy, and also if anyone knows when he'll crow *Approximately*. BTW- the other australorp who has no comb/waddle growth is bigger than him...

The chick in question-

The other Australorp-
Both of the australorps have a bit of separation anxiety and flap after me.

I'd say still a roo. My LF roos didn't start crowing until around 12 or so weeks. I had a bantam EE and a silkie that started around 6 weeks... I think it just depends on the bird. I would say that at that age with a comb and wattles you have a roo.

Give folks some time to reply....you'll get some responses for sure!

It looks like a pullet in the body to me, but I'm not familiar with 'lorps, either. But, the comb/wattles sure are red compared to the other one...I'll be curious to see what other folks say!

I can't figure it out either. He's the quietest bird I have. Every chicken friend I have has said that it's most likely a pullet, but people on BYC say cockerel.
My dad won't let me keep a roo and I'm quite attached to this one. He was a little one and I had to take extra care of him, so I really don't want to let him go. But that's a whole other thread.

If anyone has any ideas or stories about their own, I would love to hear them!

BTW- Is it okay that his comb isn't straight? That it kind of bends over in the middle? Is there something I should do to fix that? It doesn't seem to bother him any...

His comb is fine if he is just going to be a pet. Sometimes they have a little flop like that. It will take him some time before he tried to crow. I have had little bantam roos "crowing" at 2 weeks old, and I have had roos that started "crowing" at 18 weeks. It just depends on how spunky he is.

I have 2 welsummer boys that are 9 weeks old... one of them is "attempting" to crow, but sounds more like a broken kazoo... it is quite funny
