When will I get my 1st egg? **UPDATE** Got one today!!!

Meee tooo... two of my girls have been squacking up a storm lately: BAWK BAWK BOKBOKBOK BAWK BAWK BOKBOKBOK Loud (egg song?)!! Their comb and wattles are red. I just can't believe no egg still. Mine are 21 wks old. I've thought for the past 2 weeks we'd see some eggy action soon.

I have gotten 2 pullet aggs in just over a week, from 2 of my April 24, 2010 hatch!

I have some that start very early, like my Games, but these two are from my Marans and no one else is laying at all. That includes my older birds.

So two pullets, 2 eggs and 5 more pullets that I hope kick in soon and hopefully all of my hens too.

Although I did get these two egga, they haven't laid since. They're teasing me!

I have 8 Plymouth Barred Rocks and I'm not positive if all of them are laying yet, but the first one started laying at 19 weeks. The second, a week later, and I lose count after that. We're at week 24 and the most we've gotten in a day is 5 eggs. So the average range is usually somewhere between 18 and 24 weeks. I think I have one that is holding out, lol. Her comb and wattles still aren't quite as red as the other girls, but she'll get there soon enough. Good luck on the egg waiting! It's the hardest part.

Yes, that is one variation of The Egg Song.

The first stanza goes like this:
Bok bok bok bok bok bok bok bok. Bokbokbokbokbokbok! Bok BOK BOK BOK BOK! Bawk bawk bawk bawk buh-GAWK!

And the rest of the stanzas are exactly the same. Ad infinitum!

I've heard that too!! Thought it was a predator, but it was the middle of the day and the "girls" were all hanging out in the same spot.

Yes, that's the egg song.

HOLYMACKREL I am so excited!!! So how long between the egg song and...the eggs? I am a bit surprised to have heard this from our girls only at 16 weeks - that seems REALLY young, even for Australoprs (whom I am told are "early layers").

Oh man I can't believe those egg songs are actually onomatopiatic... I read them and was like, "Yep that's the egg song alright." Love how chickens sing the same song all over the world!!

Also... a hen will lay exactly one day after you give up on her.

I have two 23 week old Australorps who have been singing the egg song for about 4 weeks now....can't go by the song alone....unfortunately.....I feel like they are just playing with me since one of them squatted for me one time last week and one time today...ugh....they have me on egg shells
