when will i hear chirping? HELP!

I his chick malpositined. I'm a bit worried. And yes, they are PIPPING.

you can see where the day 14 air cell mark is and where the pip is.

because it pipped in the wrong side of the egg:
make sure that the beak stays facing upwards
when it zips, the beak will go around the shell toward the ground
it can die in the ground position (drown in liquid).
I would rotate the egg so the beak faces up when it gets to that point.

yes the beak is
also, its not chirping very often, is it tired or something?

yes, hatching is exhausting!
give it some time to rest and acclimate it's lungs. it is breathing air for the first time. normally, the chick would pip into the air cell first not the outside of the egg.
once it breaths air, it starts absorbing all the veins and yolk into's body and it's stomach closes over it, forming a navel. this is still a very important part of her development. it could be another 12-24hrs before she is ready to start zipping the shell!

I talked with BaileyBoy this morning, he is going to give us all an update when he gets out of school. Keep checking back.
