When will I know...

When will I know if my little Belgian Quail Antwerp is a little boy or a little girl? She/He is only four weeks and absolutely no sign of a comb has appeared yet.

I pray it's a girl so I can keep her!

any time now. A cockerel's comb will redden and grow slightly larger. A pullet's comb will stay pale til she's ready to start laying and will stick pretty close to the head.

I'll post a pic tonight. You can see tiny bumps that will turn into a comb (or is it crop) but it is very pale and barely there. She doesn't even look like much of a chicken yet, more like one of the birds in my yard!

I would guess a pullet. Most cockerels start maturing much earlier than pullets. But, ya never know.... let's hope.
