When will my 24 week old buffs give me an egg??

I thought I had had it planned so well, when my other girls went into molt my buffs would start to lay(hatched June 3). Well how wrong was I!!!

36 hens and I got 2 eggs today. I am giving some more light in the early am. They have tons of windows in the coop. They spend all day outside. It is so hard going form 18-25 eggs a day to 2 eggs.

Are they warm enough in their coop?

I keep a light on in my coop from 6AM until 8PM every day. I figure 10 hours of sleep is enough.

We have 18 hens and average about 11 each day now... but its still warm in Phoenix.

My Buffs hatched the first week of June are starting to lay. There is hope!

I must say, I like how they lay a nice big egg even as pullets. Can't wait to see what the eggs are like next year.

ETA: I'm in Colorado and there's snow on the ground - but we are quite a bit further south than ID.

Are they squatting yet? Reach down to pet them and see if they squat for you. Mine all laid about a week or two after they started doing that. Even my chickens that were scared of me squatted and let me pet them

Their little wings go way up at the shoulder area (or whatever area that would be on a chicken) LOL

yep here too. Not many eggs. It is only daylight here from @ 6:30 am til 5:30pm. That really slows them down. Also I have one molting so no eggs from her. I may wish I would of frozen some eggs when I was getting a whole bunch and it seamed like they were coming out of my ears.

I sure think they are warm enough, the coop is fully insulated, no drafts. They seem so snug and bugs in a rug.

Could they be laying somewhere outside? My buff first laid them on the battery ledge of the horsetrailer

, now is laying them in the clean corner of the droppings board

Why she won't lay in the nest, I don't know. I am not sure if the other buff is laying yet or not (the eggs could be anywhere).

I feel your pain too. Mine are outside all day from sunup until sundown. They eat good layer food and have a nice coop. My Buffs hatched May 8th along with my light Brahmas and from the 15 hens I am only getting about 2 eggs maybe 2-3 times a week. They have a fenced area and can't hide any so I sure hope things get better in the spring.

From June 3 to November 7 is 158 days or 22 weeks. Okay, 22 weeks and 4 days.

Try to be patient, Orpingtons are never in much of a hurry.
