Hi! we have two big chicks, and we would like to know when they will start laying eggs. One is a white leghorn, and one is a black australorp. thanks!

How old are your chicks? My white leghorn started laying around 5-6 months and my Australorp in about the 6th month.

Usually around eighteen weeks but it depends on the bird and they can begin earlier or later.

18 weeks sounds early to me....the earliest one of my chickens started laying was at 21 weeks. I think my Australorp was closer to 24 weeks or so. No experience with Leghorns.

Unfortunately, they'll start when they are ready! All of mine squatted before they started laying but I've heard of chickens who never squatted also.

16 weeks at the VERY, VERY earliest, but that would be unusual. One of my Australorps started at 19 weeks, it was a solid week before we got a second egg, and the rest followed right after that.
