I have 2...
they are both 19 weeks:
1 was squatting and i'm not sure how to check the pelvis bone
The other started building a nest
Thank you so much!

Get the pullet into your lap facing you. Locate her vent. Right beside the vent on each side are two bony knobs. Try placing two finger between them side by side. If they fit, that pullet will lay any time now.

I have three EE pullets 18 weeks old, and their pelvic bones are still so close together, it's difficult to even detect them as being two separate protrusions.

The shortening days are interfering with many pullets the ages of ours beginning layin. If this were spring, and the days were getting longer, it would trigger those laying hormones. Now, it's dubious whether they will lay this season. You and I may need to be patient until after January when the days will be heading the other way.

I have 5 Ameracauna chickens they are 23 weeks right now. Two have started to lay eggs, though not everyday. My question is the eggs are small. Will the eggs get bigger Once my chicks are older? I have pics attached of two of the eggs. Thanks.

Yes, they will get larger each time an egg is laid until some weeks later, they should be full size. I got sex links last season, and their starter eggs were all full size or nearly so right out of the chute. All other breeds I've had start out dainty and small.

Also I just heard my squatting one singing the egg song! I hope she starts soon!

They may start soon. EEs are usually the last to lay but I had one that laid at 16 weeks. If they're squatting then I would say at most a few weeks.
