I have mostly 20 week old birds that some have just started to lay, and I was wondering, when will the eggs become fertile? Will I get fertile eggs before Fall comes, or will I have to wait til next Spring? My roos are the same age as the girls. I'd like to know when I could expect them to be fertilized.

I bet they are already fertile if they have always been together. Might wait for the eggs to get up to normal size before you try to hatch some. the eggs will get bigger as the pullets mature.

Whoo Hoo!!! I got my 3rd egg today (the girls are a little slow, and I do believe that this was yet another chicken cause this egg is so much darker than the first two) and I cracked it open and ta da! I have a fertile egg!!!

So, should they ever lay more eggs (I am kind of impatient now, lol), I will collect them and put them in the bator, see what I get. I know my little roo Buddy is the main man out there, if you get my drift, and he's been mounting EVERYONE, lol. I think this egg I just cracked open was from one of my standard SLW girls. Buddy is a bantam barred cochin! Those will be some very interesting looking babies! Come next Spring when I get sertious about selling eggs I will separate my birds so that I get pure eggs. For now, that's not too important. I'm just thrilled that the egg was fertile. Way to go Buddy! And way to go my beautiful little girls!
