My Buff Orpington is about 7 months old, and has been laying well for two months.
A week or so ago she decided now was the time to go broody (despite it being the middle of Winter) and promptly sat on 3 eggs for a grand total of about 38 hours. She had a brief break to eat once, but otherwise slept on the nest and got all fluffed up and grumpy when we came near her!
Then, as fast as she decided she was broody, she changed her mind and decided she was not! She abandoned the nest, ran outside to play with the others, and went back to roosting with the others at night. She never looked back at the nest.
Since then, she has not laid an egg. It's been about 5 days now.
When can I expect her to lay again?
And what was all this about?! Could it just be that she was testing the broody waters?
Thanks in advance, Krista
