My broody Runner Aretha has been sitting on these eggs since April 29th!
Yesterday morning I saw a hole in one, heard peeping last night! This morning Aretha and Bridgett my Welsh Harlequin hen wouldn't leave the nest.
Poor Yacky the Khaki Campbell went out by herself and quacked for her friends to come out.
For a while Bridgett stood in the door . . . and then finally came out to forage with Yacky.

HERE IS THE BIG EVENT - TWO CUTE AS ALL GET OUT BABY DUCKIES!!!!

There are more eggs in there with little holes, I don't know how many as I don't dare disturb Aretha.
She started out with 12 eggs, but one was stolen by a raccoon! (That's a whole 'nother story!)
My husband pointed out that since she has been broody she has laid three eggs.
Does that mean the hatching could go on for another three days?

Not sure about the hatching, but keep an eye on the clutch. She might get up and take the babies out when there are still eggs that haven't hatched yet. If so, get a heat lamp ready!

Well I'm about to die of a cutness overdose!!!!

I got the heat lamp ready to go, thank goodness it's warming up a lot since this morning because I will have to tear myself away and leave for work soon.
Poor Aretha has not been off that nest since I got home last night at about 6:30! She has mud dried on her bill, poor girl, but what a good momma!
How long can she sit like this??

Here is the water set up - look OK?

TOTAL cuteness overload.

The swimming hole looks OK.

I keep staring at your Welsh Harlequin....I can't believe my little yellow fuzzballs will turn out to look like that

I didn't have her when she was a duckling, so I keep looking at your WH duckling photos, and Cetawin's. They look to me like unusually cute duckies, I keep waiting for that dinosaur phase.
I have an exciting plan BTW! The WH breeder who sold me Bridgett is hatching more on Friday! I hope to get a pair of beak-sexed babies from her and see if Aretha will accept them! A male and female - I think my little sisterhood of hens are getting a little lonely for a guy. And I would love just a few more eggs. Also that would set me up for some new exciting plans for next year! I'm sooo psyched!

Wait... Im confused ( just a little ) I have a buff duck... and you have what looks like a buff duck.... but you dont call it a buff duck? Im not up on some of the duck breeds ( im so lazy) so what is he/she called?

I think the one that looks most like a Buff is my Khaki Campbell, she's getting bleached feathers from this Colorado sun!
The other two are a Welsh Harlequin, and the star of the show . . . Aretha the Chocolate Runner!!!
She's the wonderful new momma!
She hufffs up and hisses at me now that her babies are hatching.
