When will they get it!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE

Our 7 week olds took about 4 days to learn, and now tuck in about 9:20 or so .......... the coop is in a wooded/shaded area and it is darker there earlier, but 9:20 seems to be it. If I go to shut the door at 9ish, I am a little too early ........ We do turn the inside coop light (15 watt red) on earlier in the evening, just to encourage them to go in - seems to help get them in the habit. (Once inside, they fight over the roost with the window view, where they all crowd together to watch outside - can't figure out exactly what they are watching, kinda like t.v. for chickens!) Hang in there, they will get it eventually:)!

Update...
we are getting there!!!

Tonight I went outside to round up the ladies, I only had to put 6 in the coop.
10 of them already found their way into the coop.

I am so excited, maybe in another week they will all put themselves
to bed.

i had some chicks that kept roosting on a top of a door - had to go out there every night -but then i got two older australrps who knew the deal - they chose the top roost - and the others followed

my most recent chicks are in a dog run with a dog house to sleep in - had to go out there the first 2 days and put them in - then i wuld basicallly keep putting htem back in until they went to sleep -[ they finally figured it puot lol 3 days after

My three 14 week old Brahmas have been taking to their outside roost at night! I have to "tuck them in" each night around 9pm (on their indoor roost). I was surprised to see them sitting on their outside roost during yesterday's loud thunderstorm too!

Crazy teenage rebels.

Anywho... I think I need to start "tucking them in" earlier each night when there is still a little light outside. This way they can see the indoor roost and learn to jump up on it!

You're not alone

Huh it's so strange how weird and different they all are. My three girls have constant access to the coop and run we don't have the door made yet. They just let themselves out in the morning long before I am up at 6:30am and they go to bed all on their own around 8pm. We'll have to change that up come winter as they are long and cold here so I can't leave them with the door open. Mine are 12 weeks old now.
