When Will They Roost at Night?

I have noticed that they start out at night clumped together in a ball in a corner of the coop by their door. Sometime after I leave they disperse themselves to the roosting bars. For the past 2 weeks every morning when I go open their door they all jump off the bars and single file run out the door.

I noticed mine do the same thing however I think mine are just getting on the bar in the morning to look out the window before I let them out. I don't think they ever get on the bar over night because I have gone out after dark to check on them and they are all still in a ball on the ground. My last flock would roost right away and were on the bar if I went to check on them after dark.

The 2x4 already fits, so I get why you wouldn't want to change it out. Maybe you could turn it 90 degrees so they have the 2 inch edge to perch on.

I did have a thinner square bar in there previously (its painted like the rest of the coop and you can kinda see it under the 2x4 in the pic) that they never used either so I mounted the 2x4 on it after reading that it helps keep frostbite from happening. Plus I read that they like flat surfaces and thought they would roost if the bar was wider. NOT lol
