when will they sleep on their roost?

If you really want them up there, go in after dusk/dark and put them up every night for a few nights, they will catch on.
I have a bunch of breeds (11 weeks now) and the BO were some of the last to use the roosts. Then I spent a few nights moving them from the tops of the nest boxes. Now they have all been roosting for the past 2 weeks or so.

I always wondered that also. I tried many times going out at night and plopping them on the roost. But I got no takers, they sleep on a shelf along side the nest box.

I think it's so they won't get everything all poopy, including the nestbox. I scoop out all poo in the morning and they're good to go.
