I worked hard and in a little over an hour I built a nice run for the hen and her babies. I opened the door to the coop step out of the way and waited. Nothing happened. None of them once looked out at the great outdoors.
I'm pretty sure they are 4 weeks old, so when will they go outside?

Aren't chickens funny? And I thought dh was bad about something new until I got chickens.

I would just leave the door open and start dropping little bits of chick starter just outside the door. For my hens I would call chick chick but use whatever they are used to and call her out. The call should get her attention and the food will bring her out.

marebear07, chickens always seem to play follow the leader. Once one of the chicks decide to go outside, the rest will surely follow. Gotta love them peeps.

Don't worry. They will be out soon enough and you won't be able to get them back in. Mine refused to come out for almost 3 hours. Then one fell out the door, flipped a fit and jumped back in. Eventually, one came out on it's one with others to follow a little bit at at time. Now I open the door of the coop in the am and it's a sea of feathers a flappin'!!!!

Keep trying, it took mine 3 or 4 trys. I'd open the door sit in the run at the far end and wait. I read a book for 2 hours once. A couple of brave ones would run 1 foot out the door then hear a noise and RUN back in full speed.

Finally after one of them noticed a flying bug she ran out to get the bug and never looked back, ofcouse a couple follwed to fight for the delicious bug.........thats all it took, finding bugs. Now they want to be out all the time. Entice them with some hard boiled yokes. Sprinkle them out the door into the run?? never know
