When would a Barred rock start laying eggs

I just got my first egg from one of my 2 BRs yesterday (you can see pictures under post pics of your 1st egg here) She's almost 20 weeks old.

I have 1 BR laying and she has now layed 4 all in consecutive days, she'll be 17 weeks on Tuesday 8/11.

My barred rock chicken started laying at probably 23 weeks. It's a guess on her though I was told she was five months old so by that she would have been 23 weeks before she laid her first egg. She has been a real good layer. She lays an egg every day and if not pretty darn close to it.

I've marked my calendar for 26 August 2015, they will be 24 weeks old then.

Occ, you r lucky. I am hoping that my Barred rocks would be laying pretty soon and they will be 18 weeks on Sundayand I am hoping for sure that both of them are female.

I have 4 barred rocks. They are currently 22 weeks old. 1 has been laying since 19.5 weeks. Quite regularly. She takes a day or two off per week. Her eggs are all smaller but are getting larger with time. The other 3 have red faces, combs, and wattles so I hope they join in soon. My hen that lays did not do any squatting and has not done any since she started. However, she announces that she is going to lay an egg for a couple of hours before she actually does. She lays her egg and comes out of the house quietly, no announcement of arrival.

My barred rock turned 16 weeks on Monday. Her comb has always been redder than the other pullets but it's bordering rooster bright red now.

Update: Another one started laying at 24 weeks. Now just two more to go. They are now 25 weeks old. I have started calling the two hold outs "chicken salad" and "chicken pot pie". Could never do that to them though.

Lol chicken salad....I've had a straggler or 2, but in my experience, BRs are one of the first to reach maturity out if the breeds I have... I've had one lay as early as 16 weeks, but I don't recall having to wait past 24... They're laying machines once they start! Very consistent, and will even lay in winter, although it does drop to every few days...
Nice thing too, my BRs don't lay wonky eggs; I get more weird eggs from the Wyandottes than any other breed, so I'm culling them for more BRs; love their personalities
