When you eat out do you leave a tip for bad service?

My mom told me that one time,my granpa left a 50 cent tip in pennies because the waitress really sucked!!!!I'm usually not the one tipping, but when I find myself with monney sitting in a restauraunt,I may tip.

Formal restauraunts:

Excellent service- $10

Good service-$7

Poor service-$0

Causal restaurants:

Excellent service-$5

Good service- $3

Poor service-$0

In another words, NO...ZIPPO for bad service!!!!!!!

Your waiter is taxed on what the tip would be on your bill. Whether you actually tip or not. Years ago when I trained waitstaff for Marriott, 8% of the total before tax was withheld. If too many people stiff on the tip, the employee won't see much of a paycheck. Usually the paycheck is very nominal as the taxes are taken from it, most waiters have to live on just tips.
I've always felt that tipping should be dropped, with the restaurant paying a decent wage like other jobs. Why should I pay their employees? Right now the tipping protocol is 20% for average service, 25% for better service. Sheesh. Maybe I should go back to waitressing.

Like some other member of BYC, I have a Service Dog that goes where ever I go, including resteraunts. What I give for a tip starts from the time I come in the door. If the greet me and my dog with friendliness and escort us to our seats quickly and happily. Tip goes up 10%. If they don't and run off to find a manager, it goes down 10%. (all resteraunts should be trained on the ADA and service dogs) If my tea glass goes empty -5%. If you fill it before I get to the ice cubes +5%. If you remember to check on us from time to time +5%. If I have to ask someone else to get something for me -5%. If my meal doesn't come out correctly and you don't try to fix it, -10%. You get it fixed +5%. It goes like this all night. I leave between nothin and 20% at times I've given as high as 50% because we had such a great time.

I am not afraid to call a manager over to complain nor give compliments on the staff and food. We even called back to AW Shucks in Charleston after we got home to talk to the owner to tell him what a great night we had when we were there. And I have no problem whatsoever to call your corporate office to tell them there is a problem especially if it is with the "owner" of one of their franchises. That poor guy at the Texas Roadhouse in Richmond will never turn away another Service Dog ever again!

I work hard for my money and expect you to do the same!!

When you are my waiter/waitress you work for me as long as I am at one of your tables. You want big bucks? You better bring your A game.

I got spoiled at the Texas Roadhouse here in town (I like steak what can I say, lol) We had certain wait staff that would request us at their tables. They had our appetizer order in and drinks on the table before we got to our booth. They were also looking for a bone for Spook. They worked just as hard for the other people in their area. I even gave Rosie a $50 tip at Christmas time because I knew she was a single mom working her way through college to make a better life for her 2 kids (their deadbeat dad didn't pay child support)

I expect the same kind of service she gave me from everyone that works in the service field. It's expected of me on a daily basis why not from the people who wait on me?

I wish tipping would be abolished. That said, I tip well for good service, and not at all for bad. If bad service is the norm at an eating establishment, I soon quit going there.

I almost always leave at least a 20% for good service, 15% for not so good. So often the waitresses are so busy that they can't do their job as well as they would like to. I have never had a waitress be rude, so I don't know what I would do in that case.

I have a similar system in mind.

If my drink goes empty, well maybe you were busy I'll give you a minute...if I sit there and WAIT for a drink, your tip is getting smaller the longer I wait. IF I have to get up and get my own darn drink.....

If you bring more drink faster than I can drink it, I'm IMPRESSED.
I know it's not the server's fault if the food is "bad" unless they just took down the wrong order. If the food is truely bad I'm simply just not gonna eat there again.

I don't wait tables exactly, but the 20% tip isn't the norm here in hicktown yet. There's still a bunch of old people who don't tip much at all

but they're generally sweet and it don't bother me to serve them. It's the people who don't tip who give off cold vibes - you just get the feeling of being taken advantage of.

I konw that I probably "over-tip" bartenders by the end of the night, but I like good service and well, my math isn't quite as good after I've had a few

We tip even for lousy service, just not as much.

As for waing for a table to become vacant we usually go shopping for about an hour or so and come back to the resaurant to eat. Yes, this place has very good food. We also have coupons for so much off of our meal. We still have one coupon (birthday) to use before this month is up and another coupon that has to used by the middle of December.

Those that dont have much, are better tippers
Then those thats have.
Some of the wealthest in CA. walk out
on their checks.and their tips.

We are tippers good or bad service.20%
they may have had a hard day.But we let it be known
we were dissappointed with the service.
