When your chickens are actually tiny dinosaurs.

I doubt it, she should be so happy in her motherdom that she doesn't notice. we had one hen hatch only one chick ( we didn't notice she was broody/ gone until she turned up again ) and that night we gave her 11 more. we weren't sure if she would accept them since she is a spastic flighty thing but she did. she did loose a couple to various things but she still has 8 of the original 12

Well, success! The chickie hatched out alright, even with my meddling!

I think it's a boy.. He's already got a pretty good comb going on and his wing feathers are all the same length.

I think my vicious bird hunting dinosaur just won mother of the year. I stuffed her baby right under her and she didn't so much as blink at the newcomer. Of course this entire brooding period she's not pecked or done much more than fluff up this entire time. No matter how many eggs I had to take out or put in.

Edit: I also stuffed the new babies under her. And that's how my Hen became mother of 17 babies. XD I didn't even have to put them under her, I just put them by her and she tucked them in, quite happily. "These are mine now"

haha, yeap they are good like that, they do the same when stealing eggs. blink and they are gone. lol and now we know where the lost children went.... kidding but imagine that, a lost child being raised by a massive hen.....
well that's great that she accepted them without a problem and good luck to you and her+ her babies

That's exactly what would happen if chickens were 4 foot tall. They'd steal babies.

I'm excited about the babies, but I know it's going to be hard NOT to lose one or two. They are a biiig mix of Araucanas, Frizzles, silkies, marans, welsummers, and pretty much any other breed you can think of. Some have five toes, even! I can't wait to see what they grow into. :) The only chick that's actually hers is a Black Australorp (her) X black Orpington. He's gonna be a BIG baby!

lol then the storks would lose their jobs and it would be an uproar and riot. he will be. if you have silkies just make sure they don't get to wet/ cold/ muddy as they don't do well when its wet/ muddy

I'm not sure if any of them will actually have the Silkie feathers or not.. Can you tell at 1 day old?

not really no, but by day 7 you should, they will still be little balls of fluffy down. while the others will be starting to feather up a little
