Someone was asking in 2009 where are all the Aussies.
I live at Upper Dromedary, southern Tasmania. I have had chooks since coming here 25 years ago.
I have one white lady age 6, who lays 17 days straight before taking 2 days off. She is first and most pushy when I throw out some wheat, so I call her The Feth'ry Pig, or The Streaker. I have a permanent feeder for layer pellets, but wheat is the ladies' equivalent of lollies.
I recently bought 2 Ancona hens (a breed originating in Italy) whose names are Mona and Lisa .
Why do I call them ladies? Well, dey lay de eggs, don't dey!
No other pets, unless you could call the bush birds pets. I have encouraged ahoneyeaters with plantings of high-nectar plants like bottlebrush and fuschia, and encourage wrens, flame robins and grey shrike thrush with grated cheese. I have had them eating out of my hand some years.
