Where are good news sources?

Thank you for the post, Laura! I'll be sure to keep this in mind.

Lots of great posts in this thread! Beware of extreme statements. "It's all lies!" Is a good example. Such arguments are more emotional that reasonable. When I hear an extreme opinion, I ask for specific examples.

For world news I like the BBC. For local new, I read our local paper. It tends to be conservative, but that's usually only in the editorial section. The actually news stories are actually well written and stick to the facts. I don't like TV or cable news at all. It tends to be hysterical and focuses on the worst or the fluffiest stories. I prefer print or radio for news.

It's really interesting to look at one news topic and read about it from different news sources. I strongly agree with the suggestion that if you only listen to information from one source that shares your bias, you are never challenged on any of your assumptions. I don't think there is anything wrong with having opinions and bias, it's deeply human. The mistake is to close your mind to other possibilities and new information. I like the bumper stick that says, Don't Believe Everything You Think.
