I talked to my dad and he finally said he’d rather see this rooster go to a “good home.”

Have you tried searching to see if there are any rooster rescues near you? They would at least know how to handle him. Maybe your family would be open to that idea. We have one near us that accepts all roosters, although they admit that they do butcher some of them.

So... if you're spending all your attention keeping the rooster away, how are you supposed to get the other chores in the coop done?

sorry, but looks like there's gonna' be 12 lbs of rooster in your freezer. this rooster has gotta' go! you needed to take out the .22. everyone will say "oh he's such a good rooster", but if you're not careful, you will be sued, and maybe even have all your birds taken away. if you don't have the heart to kill him yourself, you can always ask a neighbor, or someone to do the deed for you. a nice chicken dinner will always work. I had one of those bad boys once. Chantecleer was a RIR. he started out pretty nice. one day he bit me while I was getting eggs. it all, in a matter of 1 year, went downhill from there. he started attacking me, then my mom. rakes and hoes were a must-have at all times when you went outside. he was eventually chicken dinner. my mom wanted him to be rehomed, but nobody wants a rooster, much less one thats dangerous! He was only (maybe) 9 lbs and de-spured. you have a bigger, badder rooster, with bigger, sharper spurs. you're only other option is to drop him off one day at someones yard. they must be at least down the road a few houses, or he'll come back to his beautiful hens. chickens are smarter than we give them credit for.

Well, if it works for you. I prefer my roosters to give me room. I have no room in my life for a rooster who might attack my wife or my son or a visitor. I cull the bad ones and keep the good ones- roosters with no human aggression, watchful, solicitous to the hens, gentle. I have three over a flock of about 30 hens, and all three are good boys. Their predecessors are either in the freezer or have already been cycled through the crockpot.

Why? You expect me to tell a person....who's given a rooster multiple chances at being good...to suck it up and "deal" with a rooster that's injured them? I am AGAINST culling but if you gave a rooster so many chances it's not worth getting serious injuries. I could not do it (cull a rooster) but if I give him multiple chances, do everything I can, and still am being attacked then some day I'll have to lock him out of the coop at night.

I contacted a friend who knows a crazy chicken lady that likes crazy roosters.
She said if nothing else she can “take care” of him but hey- maybe he just sees a big red target on me

So yay! Win win!

This is good! I'm glad he's going to someone that will try more with him but may do the deed for you. I'm glad you don't have to deal with him anymore!!!

um you just work around him with the stick, i had an aggressive roo as my last one ,and i just kept the stick on him and payed attention to 2 things at once it called multitasking if you haven't heard of it
