I just want to know where peafowl are illegal to own. I read this on peafowl.com-
" Many people have them in areas where city and county codes do not allow peafowl or any kind of poultry. "
Does California count? I just want to know because my...friend wants to own a peacock.

I don't think there are states that don't allow them, but cities and counties make their own rules, probably so the neighbors don't get annoyed by noises or smells. Some cities allow a limited number of chickens, some don't have rules. So I would suggest that your... friend... just check city and county codes.

Ok, thank you Frosty. When I- my "friend"- was little, he had a peacock and no neighbors got annoyed by it.

I know years ago the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago had to get rid of their peafowl because the neighbors in the near by high rises complained. Heck the neighbors even asked them to keep the wolves quiet. The peafowl went but the wolves stayed. Sorry but the zoo was their first. With all the city noises I would have welcomed some nature sounds.
I have at least one neighbor who has peafowl. Surprised me the first time I heard them. I knew what the sound was but didn't expect it in Maine. They are noisy which is why many towns don't want them.
Another neighbor, or possibly even the same one, had some East African Crowned cranes too. So I am lucky to live in a neighborhood where most anything is allowed.
