where are the wonderful st. louis area chicken people ????

Hi Nicole, Good luck with your hatching eggs. :) I ordered an incubator and it should arrive within the next few days. I'm excited to use one for the first time....but, also a little nervous that I'll screw it up.

Just an update....my first hatch was HORRIBLE!!! Had humidity problems when a storm came in while the first 2 eggs were hatching (got up to 86% and had to open the bator and remove some paper towels, not the best situation either), both were CCL, a boy and a girl. The boy had a hernia at hatch, and while he seemed to be doing better, he died at 3 days. The other eggs appeared to have drowned when eggtopsied at the end of day 25. So now it's on to my second try! Set 5 Lav Orp, 4 Lav Ams, and 2 backyard mix (just for luck, lol, laid by buff Orps) this Sunday. Getting some more eggs and a few chicks this coming Sunday as well. Black split Lav Ams if they have them, FBCM, BLRW, and BBS Orps....plus anything else that strikes us! Hoping to do much better this time, and no shipped eggs! Labmum2, how is the new bator working for you?

Aw, I'm sorry your hatch was so disappointing Nicole. I hope your next works out much better. We set 12 eggs. I just wanted to practice with a barnyard mix for my first time. I placed 12 eggs in the incubator. We have a buff orpington that is broody and we felt courageous and placed 6 under her yesterday. This morning we had 3 new chicks in the bator and 3 new chicks under the buff. The other six eggs have cracks in them and one is peeping, so we'll see how it works out. I'll set the bator to the side until next Spring after this and that is when I'll start setting my FBCM and Jubilee Orpington eggs. I'd love to have some Lav Orps myself one day. I hope yours hatch and you can post pics of them. Good luck!

Thank you! So far we they are doing pretty well, looks like only 1 Lav Am will make it to lockdown, but 4-5 Lav Orps and the 2 BY mixes are going strong (candling tonight, day 15, since I didn't have time last night). Got 13 SFH eggs today that I will set tonight. Good luck with the rest of your hatch this year, and next year! My other half loves the Jubilee orps, I want some splash orps.....dang chicken math, lol.

Hi everyone, I am in Millstadt Il. I have 2 free roosters if Anyone is interested. They were hatched early April. Both are Americanas from Duda Lang farms.

hey Nicole, do you know where to get FBCM chicks close to STL that lay truly dark eggs! Bought a Cuckoo this spring and she just started laying. We are happy that our girl is laying, but a little disappointed that her eggs are a pretty normal light to medium brown. Any help would be great. And hope you have better luck on your next hatch. I'm new so not brave enough to try hatching anything yet, which is probably a blessing in a way. Lol. I'd be hatching out way more than I should! :)

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone in or around the St.Louis area might have some hatching Olive Egger eggs for sale? I want that nice dark green egg. :) No hatcheries please.....private breeders only. Thanks, Dana
