Where are yall finding 14 gauge wire?

I can’t find 14 gauge wire anywhere for keeping out rats. Now my son is trying to raise rats as well. Was going to make an apron but cannot find anything more than 16 gauge at a hardware store. My impression was it could be 1” x 2” correct? Would love some help please

1x2 won't stop rodents. Half inch, 19 gauge is generally accepted for most predator proofing.

No, they would have to gnaw on each wire, one by one. They are not that bright. Galvanized would be preferred.

Any steel product will stop rats, aluminum, not so much. Nearly all large cities will have a steel supplier that has anything from huge girders to consumer steel products like wire and netting. Most will sell to homeowners if you are respectful of their time. They are wholesalers, making a small profit, not there to educate you or hold your hand. Find the correct term for the product, call them and see if they stock it, the size of the roll, and the price, then buy it or not. Don't block their parking lot so the big trucks can get in and out, get in, get out, and they will welcome future retail sales.
