Hello
Ive read all about oxine AH (the one that doesnt need activating and it sounds perfect for what i need. one of my hens has been sneezing and sounding raspy for a few months, and now another has it-i dont want it to spread further. Ive no where to separate them, so i need something that can preferably go in their water. Oxine soounds miracle, but i can only seem to find it on US sites and to have it sent will cost a fortune!
Can anyone assist or recommend a just as good and easy UK Version?

Thanks!

Hey, do the hens have any kind of foul smelling, clear discharge coming from their nostrils? Any suspicions this could be a bacterial issue? Oxine is supposed to be awesome. I have some arriving in the mail today that I'll be using with a fogger to clear a respiratory illness in my birds, infectious coryza. I've been looking online to find sources of it in the UK for you, and haven't come up with anything, but if you suspect it would be bacterial related I'd recommend a course of antibiotics first. Preferably Sulmet. It's working good for us so far. :) Good luck!!

Hello, thanks for your reply! One of my chickens, a few months ago started sneezing, had a bit of a runny nose-it was clear liquid, and sounded a bit raspy. i thought it was like a cold and thought i would give it a little while and see if it cleared. now my newest hen has the same. She has a foul smell about he, but my husband thinks it sour crop. They do not have any other symptoms, but im worried it is going to spread. They are both in with 8 other hens. I looked up sulmet but i cant again, i cant get it here without prescription! Dont get me wrong, i love my hens, but as always money is tight and i dont think i could find the money for vets fees-ive heard that vets are charging over £50 for just checking the birds!!!!

Wow, that's not surprising. I'm sure it would cost the same, if not more, to take them to a vet here in the states. Can you get any kind of antibiotics readily? I know Erythromycin and Tetracycline are supposed to treat coryza, if that could be what it is. The clear runny discharge with foul smell sounds like coryza. It would smell like rot, like a dead animal almost. If you think it's sour crop, I've seen people recommend using baking soda to neutralize the crop, olive oil to clear it and feeding her yogurt for the good probiotics to help break down the crop contents. Feel around for any lumps. It may feel squishy, but keep feeling around the crop for a walnut sized mass that could be blocking the passage of food.
