My 10lb 2 year old Buff Orpington rooster developed bumblefoot. I did the surgery on his foot and wrapped it;but I thought that the antibiotic would help him heal. I called two Vets and two feed stores in my area to no avail. I live in Metairie Louisiana. Does anyone have or know where I can buy some chicken antibiotic?

I don't know where to buy these meds (sorry), but I had a vet prescribe Cephalexin for bumblefoot in 1 of my hens, and it appears to have worked. Wouldn't your vet see your chicken, or wouldn't he prescribe those particular medications? Most people on this site do successful surgery without antibiotics. It is my understanding you don't need them, as long as you are able to get all of the infection out of the foot and keep it clean while it heals. I was too wimpy to do surgery and opted for the antibiotics instead.

You can buy "chicken antibiotics" at the feed store, in the poultry section. If all else fails, you can order off internet and wait:

and randall berkey

www.drugs.com gives you dosages for many vet drugs- they have a poultry section

Did you use antibiotic ointment at all? (Without painkillers.)

Every time I've treated bumblefoot antibiotics were not necessary. It healed as long as the middle of the infection is pulled out. I do put a small piece of cotton (pea size) soaked with betadine solution into the hole and wrap with tape. I change it every day for about 5 days and it heals from the inside out. Before bandage changed you can also soak the foot in a container with warm water and betadine added so it looks like strong tea.
