Where can I get nest eggs?

Where can I buy wood or glass nest eggs that aren't too expensive. Famous hatchery sells them for $15 a piece! I need about 5 or 8, so that's way too expensive.

My girls (3 silver-laced Wyandottes) just don't want to lay in the nest box & I'm tired of listening to them complain when I restrict them to the chicken run & coop. Nag, nag, nag all day long just under my office window!

I tried leaving 2 marked eggs in the nest but when they get too old the girls roll them out - and they don't really work anyway because my free rangers still go looking for somewhere else to lay, and find all kinds of nooks and crannies to hide their eggs in, the little stinkers. We're out here in the woods and I will never find them.

I don't really want to leave 6 real eggs in nest over a longer period for fear of breakage & hens discovering how tasty eggs are.

A couple of golf balls was enough to convince our girls. LOL!

Try craft stores or the crafts dept. at larger walmarts. Last year a easygarden (BYC's sister site) member was kind enough to share some egg gourd seeds with me. They look just like the real thing.
Egg hunting is not alot of fun is it? Every night I have to check under the bike shed, because some of the girls are a bit too fond of it.

My wife picked up 4 wooden ones at the flea market for 1 dollar an it seams to be working so far mine have been laying for 3 weeks all in the nest boxes.

We use those cheap plastic ones that you can fill with candy for Easter. I filled them with dirt to give them a bit of weight, but I'm not sure you would have to.

Check with parents of any kid under 10, I'm sure they would be happy to give up a few.

Golf balls work too.

Ping pong balls will also work, but you'll need to drill a hole and fill them with sand for weight or the hens will just knock them out of the nest.

I bought 6 ping pong balls at walmart for $.97. It worked like a charm

Do you have a Target around you? We used my daughters wooden eggs from her play kitchen set. Then we went and picked up another half dozen to replace.

I bought 12 from welp hatchery for 8.99 dont know how much they are now but they are cheaper than 15 dollars....a piece
