I have called every feed & seed, Tractor Supply, my local farmer's co-op, health food store, etc. and they act like they don't know what I'm talking about. I tell them maybe I'm not pronouncing it right or something and then tell them what it's for. They tell me they don't have any, but I'm not sure if they just don't know what I'm talking about.

The lady at Tractor Supply put me on the phone with another employee that referred to herself as the "chicken lady" because she said that she's got like 40 something chickens of all ages. Anyway, she said to put seven dust on them.

But is that safe? Also, I want the food-grade DE so I can put it in the food and also put it on my cats and dogs and in their food as well.

I've looked at a few places online but the 50-pound bag would cost a fortune to have it shipped to me. I'm thinking about ordering just the 2 1/2 pound container of it which it would still cost about as much for the shipping at it actually costs.

There is a man at our local flea market on Saturdays that sells Diatomite. Is it the same thing and is it food grade? I'm thinking of going there on Saturday and asking him if it's food grade.

Shipping isn't as much as you think. $50 for a 50# bag (includes shipping) is only $1 a pound. If you go to a commercial nursery, they will have a bag of 4 lbs for about $18.....at least where I live.

I guess when you put it like that... ($1/pound) it doesn't sound that bad.

I'm gonna go to one of the feed stores here and see if they might could possibly order some for me or something. If not, I guess I'll just order some.

Lots of feed stores have suppliers that carry it, even if the feed store is not familiar, at least recently.

Places that sell 50 lb bags online for less than about $40 usually have enormous shipping charges, IME.

My link to the place I bought it last does not work. I recently read that the FDA has gotten into this as it is not tested to their standards for the uses for which people want it.

Good luck; I don't have a source for you.

go to earthworkshealth.com You can buy large or small quantities and the beauty of this company is that the product is packaged in plastic screw top jars so everything stays fresh and dry. No more ripped, dirty, moist bags. They also have excellent customer service. Excellent people.
