Two mourning doves built a nest in our empty hanging flower pot. I moved them from hanging position to a table since it was tooo windy and i did not want the egg to fall and break. After 2 days one of the egg hatched and the dove was feeding the baby with crop milk. I saw the baby bird being fed yesterday as well, untill late night. But today morning, THE NEST WAS EMPTY. No adult bird, no baby bird. I do not see any egg shell either and there seems to be NO STRUGGLE....like no feathers all around to suspect if a cat tried to catch them.

What happened to them?

Do u think the bird can take the young in its beak and fly?

I am finished crying. Just wanted to know if they are safe.

Ive seen ringneck dovesove eggs under wing or held between legs, as well as move newly hatched squeakers. seen "pigeons" (rock doves) move eggs same.
Chickens, mallard ducks, n muscovy ducks, move eggs n young same way.

so hope, but more likely something (squirrels usually see, sneak up n grab squabs and eat them n egg shells (dont worry very short death), but after squeakers dry off n settled, parents take egg shells away from nest. they may have covered baby to hide from preds, as seen pigeons do when single fathers. If father was on nest he prolly flew off n they came back and saw enpty nest n flew off for now.
good luck n hope your dove friends return. maybe consider pigeon rescues shelters etc, and adopt a couple or more pigeons, if these were peaceful joy of your day. pigeons do good n best kept in even numbers n sex doesnt matter.

Laughing dog, thank you so much for your kind response. I think they have moVed. ..just a hunch
