And is there any particular kind of sand to put in the coop. Trying to figure how much I would need and where I should buy it from, it's for a 5.5 X 3 coop? Thanks Chicken Luvers

I bought ours from a local place that sells mulch, compostost, nursery mix, etc.

I mention this because I live in Augusta Georgia and it's right on the border with South Carolina (where you live).

Bricko Farms outside of BeachIsland sells a "pickup" truck load of sand for $15. Actually, since I drive a small pickup, they suggested half this size due to the weight of the sand. For $7.50 we got (literally) a ton of sand.

We get play sand at Home Depot. Here, is it around $4.50 for a 50lb bag. I would suggest buying about 4 bags to start with, although I think that will be enough. We have a 2'x10' poop board and that used up 2 full bags.

Thanks guys! I have a local place that sells it by the scoop and I have Lowes next to my house so its a matter of figuring out how much I want and who has the better price!

I just called Henson's by me and they sell white sand for $16. for a half of scoop which is equivalent to about 1000 pounds of sand.... I definately think I'm going that route, it would cost me that much alone buying 4-6 bags (50lbs) each at Lowes Then I would have extra sand to spread around the yard for the girls

I bought a dump truck load, 15 yards, $128.00 +/-, enough to last me for years. I checked out our yellow pages and called them, two days later I had all the sand I needed and more.

I contacted one of our local delivery places, they wanted $34 a ton and $120 to deliver it, but said they would not delivery only a ton, we should come and pick it up. And to top it off they were super rude, I realize that homeowners are probably not their biggest customers but do you have to be sooooo rude!!!! We do not have a truck, probably should but can't justify the cost right now. So we will be hauling 50 lb bags from the Lowes, probably four at a time in the car until we get what we need.

We got it at the landscape supply where they sell soil, mulch, etc. Just hauled it in the pickup truck. Cost is $26 per yard, but we didn't need that much, the rest is going into the garden or into buckets for future use. I have about 4" deep in the run and 2"-3" in the coop. Love it!
