Where do I find the netting that deters hawks?

Cutler's poultry and pheasant supply. They have a web site. They offer different sizes and the netting is very light weight for a large area. Got the idea for someone else on this site who had pictures of their set up. I think it was Southernchick28. Check out her posts to see it.

I got mine at Cutler's and to attach it, I also ordered their little C-clip pliers that came with about a million C-clips.

I think the total cost was under $150--maybe a little expensive for my 20 x 35 run, but I think it's pretty secure. I've been through two seasons with no problems except that my silly cat likes to climb up on top and use it as a hammock. The heavy weight netting is super strong (think like soccer goal netting). I can't physically break a stitch, but it's easy to cut with shears. A huge 25 by 50 foot piece only weighs 30 lbs. I had a bunch left over to use for hospital/brooding/quarantine coop, etc.

I have eight foot poles around the perimeter sunk 18 inches in concrete with hardware cloth stretched around, wired to the poles, and buried 12 inches at bottom. Then I put a 10 foot pole in the middle with an upturned flower pot that the netting is draped over--sort of circus tent style and C-clipped every couple inches to the hardware cloth around the top of the fencing. Doesn't need to be all tall like that, but it's more pleasant for me to go inside and tend chooks.

Thanks so much everyone, and thanks for the pics pricem11-those c-clips sound handy. Our fence surrounding the run is chain link and I think the posts are enough to hold up the netting, but I will just have to get some and try it. If it sags I will deal with it, perhaps I will have a circus tent in my run as well!

I really like mom's idea of making a roost in the middle. Wish I had thought of that instead of the 10 foot middle pole. The C-clips should work great for attaching to your chain-link.

One other note, this year we had a pair of red-tailed hawks raise a baby not 50 yards from our coop/run and 20 feet from our front door. No chicken losses amazingly!

Oh yeah, my net has the 1 inch openings so it does trap leaves, but I just shake them off. I like the extra protection from the smaller holes since we have so many birds of prey (hawks, falcons, kestrels, owls) where I live.

Pricem11- How do you like their C-clips??? Could I use it and attach it to hardware cloth (with 1/2 inch openings)? I have small cable ties that I was going to use. Would that work?
My netting is not up yet. When I went to make the center support it turn into an extra roost/deck project

I have the deer netting, have had it up for 2 years and I get LOTS of snow. It hasnt been a problem for me! Although putting up that stuff is a B*^&H ...it sticks to everything!

I attached mine with cable ties.

I gotta figure out how to make that center pole into some sort of roost staging--problem is it's metal. Great idea though!

Yes Kris, the C-clips are perfect for attaching to the hardware cloth. That's exactly what I have. The cable ties probably work fine too though. Actually if they're black and you trim the excess off, it might even look neater since the net is black. Don't know how long the ties hold up if they're plastic; probably fine though. I think others on here have used those with no problems.

I just got the cheap C-clip pliers that you have to put the clip into individually before crimping it into place. There is such a thing as one that loads them automatically into the pliers--expensive though. I was still able to attach mine in a couple of hours.

tiffanyh- no sign of wear on the netting from the cable ties? My area is very opening and I'm worried that the movement from the wind will cause wear were it rubs.
