Hello All,
I am sorry about posting this problem again if it is already out there, but I get lost in a big forum like this. I have taught Media Studies at a high school and there are many benefits to these types of things but they also get so big that to sift through all the information is counter productive. So here is my dilemma.
I have had chickens for three years now and everything has been fine. The first year I had six from a big hatchery (6 ISA Reds), the second year I bought ISA Reds, Barred Rocks and Leghorns from the same hatchery. Last year I bought Jersey Giant eggs, Golden Laced Wyandotte eggs (a bit of inbreeding I suspect) and hatched many eggs from previous hatchery stock. Never have I brought any live birds from anywhere else into flock. I have been very vigilant about not bringing them into my girls. I keep pretty clean coops (Coop A and Coop B), not perfect but I have not had any issues for the last three years.
About a month ago this women dropped off a one year old Jersey Giant for me to have without consulting me. My son who was home at the time put the bird into Coop B. I flipped out later on that day got her out and put her in isolation, and put my other two Jersey Giant birds in there with here to start breeding. Two weeks on...
I just killed a Golden Laced Wyandotte Roo today, who was squeaking since the intro of the foreign hen. He was doing the open mouth breathing and very lethargic. Everyone else in Coop B is fine.
Isolation chamber-Jersey Giant Roo has some pretty liquid greenish droppings, lethargic a few days ago, seems better but still has diarrhea.
Jersey Giant hen that is foreign-seems healthy, messy but feathers though
Jersey Giant Hen from my stock seems fine
Coop A-shares a fence with Isolation pen-Oldest stock-Leghorns, BRs, ISA Brown mixes started weeping tonight (2 or 3)
and two or three are crapping whitish liquid a lot!
That is my situation
A few more factors- Coop B approx 25 birds fighting mites but seem to be healthy so far
Coop A- 30 hens fighting some mites as well
I will nuke everyone at the same time
I cannot isolate anymore chickens, I need to deal with this as a group.
I know I will lose the eggs but I want to deal with this ASAP
What medicine do I need and how do I fix this?
This is code red and I will cull the herd if I have to, not one of those super attached chicken people.
If I have to stop something from wiping out my population I will make the hard decisions.
I am not insensitive just trying to see the big picture.
In Ontario, Canada so if that restricts what I can or can't purchase to do this
Thank you in advance
Aaron
