where do you get an egg scale?

The so called "antique or vintage scales on ebay are just as expensive as the new one I just bought.

They also are (some, not all) exactly like my store bought one. Why pay $29.95 + S & H for used, when you can get new for the same $$ from the store you know & trust?? (I have been buyin/selling ebay for over 10 years)

I paid like $10 plus shipping for mine on ebay. It's just a food scale. I weigh mine in ounces, and my girls are still young and just getting their "equipment" going, and they're laying eggs between 1.9 and 2.3 ounces a day (and getting bigger all the time).

This is a very good quality scale. It runs on AA batteries, and I think I have only had to replace them 1 time in 3 years (not too long ago).

Here is a link to the exact same scale.

Edited to add the link just to give you an example of what my scale looks like.

As others have pointed out, egg size is determined by weight anyways. You typically end up paying more for a fancy egg scale that is less precise, and takes up more room, than a small kitchen scale. If you want a knick knack and conversation piece to decorate the kitchen, buy the egg scale. If you want something more utilitarian, then a kitchen scale does the job.

Jumbo 2 .5oz (71g)
Extra-large 2.25 oz (64g)
Large 2 oz (57g)
Medium 1.75 oz (50g)
Small 1.5 oz (43g)
Peewee 1.25 oz (35g)

I got an awesome antique one on ebay also. It's red with the small to extra large and ounces on it. I just love how it looks in the kitchen too and I love seeing at a glance how big an egg is. I just weigh them for fun as we just sell eggs as eggs and don't size them. The variation in price on ebay is quite large. I bid on several but ended up paying only about 16. I think most were selling for 20-25. They are plentiful so don't go crazy bidding. there will be another one. I did see one that had been used on the I Love Lucy set. I would have loved to have that one....but it got kind of pricy! The red ones are the most common but there are some very cool funky green ones.

Here's the one my wife bought me on ebay, about 40 dollars but I love antiques anyway. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/46124_scale_002.jpg

Wouldn't a scale like this give you just the egg size. So if it's somewhere in between it's still a small, med. or large? Seems to me this would be faster, right? Then having to figure out the "it's between this and that".
