Any tips on how to go about contacting these companies? How would you inquire about taking/purchasing the poor girls? Any tactics that have/haven't worked for anyone?

Ugh I just found one in my area after a google search, following up with google maps. I knew there was one around here, I just didn't know exactly where.
After my little google maps search, not a single window in the whole place..No birdies in the grass..My heart is sinking. There are no happy birds in that place![]()
What did you search on google maps? I can't find any battery hens.
I did a regular Google search with my province/city followered by the word egg or poultry (ie. "Nova Scotia eggs") and then put the address into Google maps
Call the place, and do not let them think you are against how they raise chickens in any way, or they will not let you take any. If you call then say "do you have any spent hens that I can buy?" Don't use the word battery hens because sometimes that offends them. If they say they have no spent hens you can buy, ask if you can buy hens that aren't spent. Also use the word buy not rescue, so you don't offend them. So if they say you can have hens, and you are at the farm, if they lead you into the smelly, gross, loud and of course sad shed, then act like you have never seen or heard of anything like this. Because if you walk in and you seem like you were expecting this they could assume that you have seen videos of it and you are possible against it. If they do lead you into the shed (which rarely happens) you may end up taking more than you came for. It is very sad seeing the poor suffering hens. So, just be prepared with an extra box or crate. And if they bring the hens out to you, just know they carry the hens by the legs, so the hens will be pretty scared for a few hours after that. Hens hate being carried by their legs. Good luck, and I hope you will be able to rescue hens!Any tips on how to go about contacting these companies? How would you inquire about taking/purchasing the poor girls? The hens wouldn't be kept outside. They would be inside a (usually metal) building, and most likely in tine little battery cages. They don't have access to grass, sunshine, or even dirt. They spend their short lives indoors. I say short because they kill them when they are 2 years old. If it is a "free-range" facility (which is just as cruel as cages, because the hens are crammed in a building and still can't move) there is 1 tiny door, that the hens can hardly even get to, and every once and a while one hen will go out, but usually they never go out since they hardly can get out. If it is a "free-range" facility then (if you would want to do this) you could almost just sneak over there and secretly steal any hens who are outside.. I know some animal rights people do that, I am not sure if I would since if they caught you it would be very bad, but you could try if you want.. Just a possibility. Good luck!Ugh I just found one in my area after a google search, following up with google maps. I knew there was one around here, I just didn't know exactly where.
