Where does everyone purchase their sand

I'm thinking about doing sand in my chicken tractor coop. Anyone near Jacksonville NC can tell me where they get their sand from since it is suggested to not use playground sand or the sand that's at Lowe's and Walmart?

Lowes here has Paver Sand which does not contain crystalline silica. Home depot does not. You might want to check what brand(s) your local stores carry and check the ingredients online

It worked extremely well for me when I had a small enclosed run (~2'x5') filled with ~4" of sand. I would use a kitty litter scoop once a week or two and clean it out. The once per year to 1.5 years I would change the entire thing out and replace the sand.

I loved it.

I've moved on from that coop for now, but would go back to sand in a heartbeat for a run out here in Colorado where it's dry, sunny, and sandy anyways haha.

I did not use it inside the coop, I used flakes there.

and of course both Lowe's hardware stores in town do not carry it so I will have to order online unless I find another landscape or quarry landfill nearby.

If you call a sand or gravel place and ask for construction sand, I think, you should get the right stuff. What you want is not gravel but definitely not as fine as play or beach sand.

Chicken tractor with sand? I don't get it. Will it be a stationary chicken tractor or will you fill an entire area with sand to move the chicken tractor across? Not trying to harsh on you or anything, just curious.

Was wondering the same. A tractor is normally meant for use on grass, to give the chickens new grass to dig at without letting them stay long enough to destroy it.
