Where have all the good sellers gone????

I have stopped buying eggs from "general" people because of the crappy shipping and business practices. I have paid for orps and ended up with cochin crosses TWICE this year!!!

I've had crushed eggs, eggs shipped in too small of a box. Eggs not wrapped at all in any kind of padding. Eggs sent so wet and dirty they shells were like paper. And on and on and on.This year I have rotten eggs shipped to me as well. I've gotten totally screwed so many times. My buyer list is very very short at this point.

On the flip side, I've sold eggs for almost 3 years. I have NEVER had a complaint about my shipping. I have repeat customers and customers sent to me from other customers. I think that says enough.

I have sent out replacement eggs on poor hatches. I have sent out replacement eggs on PO crushed boxes. All I ever ask is they pay the shipping. That is fair and equitable for both people.

It is a buyer beware market, but there should be some decent customer service as well. It's the RIGHT thing to do.

Sellers like this usually have the best customer service and always repeat customers!!! Wish there were more like this instead of sellers take the whole stance "It's not the seller's fault."

I predict your attitude will change once you start selling.......it's hard to see it from both sides when you only have experienced it from one perspective.

No not really. As I said I have another hobby and it involves selling "things" that can be replaced if not received correctly. and I do have my values. I can not honestly take someone's money and they end up with nothing in the end. They are eggs. My hens put them out every day mostly. I would want buyers to have a good hatch rate, to get something for the money the spent. That's the kind of seller I would be.

I have had good and bad experiences with eggs bought from ebay. Here is Texas, I will NOT buy eggs in the summer. Even if the seller would agree to mark the box to be held at the post office. The box has to get to the post office somehow and that is usually in the back of a big mail truck. Where the eggs just bake in the summer heat. I wait to buy eggs in the early spring or late fall.

I did have the most awesome seller one time. I bought White Ameracauna eggs. The eggs were delivered to my house but the were left my the door that goes into my garage instead of the front door. It was 3 days later that I saw them. I knew that I had no chance of them hatching at this point. I emailed the seller and asked him if he had any more that he would sell and explained to him what happened. I was willing to pay for them all over again since the problem was not his fault. He replied back the next day and said that he had shipped me another dozen. Told me not to worry about to cost. They were good eggs too. 9 of the 12 hatched.

I wish I still had these birds. We had an animal attack that killed most of them. 

Good luck with that.....I still would bet it'll be different once you have some first hand experience with selling them. I don't care what else you sell......it's not the same as hatching eggs.

I have my values too which is one reason I more than likely won't sell hatching eggs anymore. Until the PO decides to treat the packages better you are fighting a losing battle with hatching eggs more often than not....especially with buyers who just don't understand the risk.

I jumped on your thread to see "what's up doc?"
Looks to me like you have really bad luck (or the breed you desire has really bad breeders?).
I sell eggs and have had great hatches and lousy ones.
Crushed boxes and internal damage with no visible sign of outward damage with good hatch, pristine boxes with lousy hatch, adverage boxes with great hatch.
Either way it goes for them, I make sure I know how the boxes arrived, then, I have a reminder at 21 days and I contact the "new parents" to see how things went. I make a notation on my permanent record. I work with them if it didn't go bad. I've spoken with others and mostly, except for the really big guys, they do similar things for thier customers.
I understand your rant. You have a right to with the bad treatment you have received. I hope your luck changes.
I would like to take this opportunity to asked everyone to do feedback on the buyers and sellers on the BYC forum. Update it too. It will help our friend here, and others like her, not go into buying eggs blindly and just hoping for the best. BYC forum is more than just chat - we can help eachother make wise decisions where our money is best spent. Please don't lambast some one, but let everyone know you were disappointed and why, what the seller offered to rectify the problem or if the seller refused to recify at all. I understand that all things cannot be recified to your satisfaction all the time, but they should have offered something.

madamwlf, I suggest that you stop purchasing shipped hatching eggs.

Shipped eggs are a form of gambling. You might as well complain that you've invested hundreds in lottery tickets with no return and the sellers of lottery tickets aren't good businessmen because they won't replace your bad tickets.

It's been clearly explained a multitude of times all over this forum. It's in most of the ads for shipped eggs. You are gambling. There are no guarantees on a gamble.

It's your choice to gamble and the only way you protect your "investment" is to stop gambling.

I suggest that you buy your hatching eggs locally and hand carry them. Or buy already hatched birds--- although I won't ship chicks because I don't want to have to replace all of them if the post office kills them.

You could pay a ton more money for shipping and have them flown over-night service. Airport to airport, you'd have them in less than 4 hours. If you want to pay for it.

That's the way the game is played, and I'm sorry to hear how unhappy you are, but the rules aren't going to be changed for you.

So.... if you don't like the game, don't play.
