:D

Is there a curtain state thats better than others to have chickens?
For certain breeds yes hotter states should have more heat tolerated birds and the colder might need to be more cold resistant. You can virtually have chickens anywhere it's other livestock that you might have troubles with. Goats for example weren't really designed to live in Oregon you have to be really careful on what they graze upon because there are a lot of poisonous plants here.

There is no best state to have chickens unless you are talking about a state that any breed can thrive in. There are breeds that are suited to every state--even Alaska. I suppose if you are going to have an ideal location for keeping any kind of chickens, the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii would be the closest thing to an ideal place. It is tropical with no weather extremes so temperature would not be a problem for any breed. In addition, there are no serious predators there so free ranging is not a problem. Unlike the other Hawaiian islands, mongooses have no really become established on Kauai (although an occasional one has been spotted there). Rats are probably the biggest problem on Kauai where chickens are concerned.

Michael, I'm guessing there aren't any natural predators that would dine on the mongooses Will mongoose kill rats?

Mongooses will kill rats when they encounter them. Mongooses were imported to Hawaii for just that purpose. The problem is that mongooses do there hunting in the day, and rats are active at night so they don't come into contact with each other that often. The result is that now Hawaii has both rats and mongooses.(

What if the population of Hawaii (all islands incl.) made so much noise during the night- that rats had to forage during the day.? Or conversely they could cause great commotion during the day which would keep the mongooses from sleeping- they would be very crabby and attack rats all night long. I know Diva needs to get a lot more sleep and just button her
