i have to say THE BEST PLACE FOR CHICKENS is in AZ that's the best place to have chickens, but never in or near the big cities , its way to hot...! i have raised chickens in Ct & NY FL, and Az is the best , but only up in the cooler mountain areas, we never have any SMELL , cant even tell that we have chickens at all ,and no need for any bedding in the coop ,we have nice wood floors in the coop and the floor is always dry, we just vacuum the hen house once a month orso , or hire a man to come shovel it out & put it all into bags , that we sell , but we usually just use our giant R2D2 looking vacuum to vacuum up our hen house , so with hardly any effort at all we keep our hen house nice & clean we have 50 chickens & maybe more soon, its the best for chickens here in AZ a mile hi in the mountains, in summer we have nice cool mornings , some times down in the 60's in august, it rains every day around 2 to 4 pm all summer then it gets cold or even down right chilly when it rains, but never humid , its never humid here ...lol.. we always have shaded areas were the hens can take dirt baths they dont need any shade in winter spring or fall, but in summer we buy tarps to use for the shaded areas out side the hen house & to the dirt bath area, all my hens come to visit us each morning & evenings as they are always out free ranging every day, then they come up say good night before bed time on our back porch, we keep the glass door open & screen door closed so we can see & hear the girls chattering away all excited about eating bugs or fresh fallen apples they love so much , we have great winters every day it goes from early morning down in the 40's then up to the 80'or even higher day time , one February afternoon my back porch was 110 in the sun....lol. but after 5 pm the temps drop down , so i would HAVE TO SAY AZ with trees can be a paradise in the mountains..! its just the reverse of the cold states,WE have to keep the hens cool , instead of keeping them warm, but we dont have to do that for months on end, like in many of the colder states, in CT winter can go from oct to april , 7 months maybe all depending on the crazy weather patterns, so in AZ we would keep our hens shaded maybe 3 to 4 months , so that's why Az is the best place for chickens, : )
