We lost our perfect puppy Cleo in an accident last November and ever since I have been searching the internet for another dog. I admit, I am darn particular but we are sharing our LIFE with a new dog: always with us, traveling, visiting, tending chickens, you get the idea.
And we don't want to compromise on size: EXTRA large. or hair: long so it dust-bunnies up instead of scattering. brains: PLENTY- we love a thinking dog! . color: preferably black but on that we are flexible. We'd like an older pup/adult, but we could deal with a pup.
We'd love to do a rescue ( Cleo was out of our local pound) but all they have are pit bulls/labs/mixes thereof. Yes, I know they are wonderful dogs but we arent' interested.
I am just so frustrated. We need a dog for protection of us AND our chickens. ( We are in the country and the fox and coyotes get a bit too close.) I've been offered a purebred German Shep FREE, but when I think of sinking my fingers into that coat.... no....I want long fur.
Forgive the rant, please. It's just very frustrating and it helps to vent.
Thanks for listening.
And if you know of a big black hairy thinking dog who wants a good home. Please let us know.

Go to a german shepherd rescue and ask for a long haired one, like Kane:

Then get ready to vacumn up dog hair for years to come. German shedders! Wouldn't take a million dollars for either of our boys.

Darn! There goes the idea of giving you Sweet Pea. She doesn't have the brains of a brick!

Well if you can compromise on color.. what about one of those shetlands.. lassie dogs. I think their hair is just beautiful. Or what about a St. Bernard?

Standard poodle? There are rescues groups for all dog breeds. Once you narrow it down to what you want you shouldn't have an problem finding the right dog for you.
