I desperately need to get out of CA!! I am an LPN so I can go almost anywhere. There are a few states in particular that I am contemplating. Can you all help with info on what it is really like to live in:

Alaska: Kotzebue or Bethel or Seward or Fairbanks or Anchorage

Michigan

Wisconsin

Kentucky: Somerset

Tennessee:

West Virginia

Maine;

I especially want to know about how hot it gets over the summer and the Humidity. It get over a 100 out here but it is very dry. And I HATE the heat.

So lets have it, the good, the bad, the ugly.

Don't come here (MI) if you hate humidity. Although this year has been unusually mild......normally summers are in the 90's with high humidity through most of it making it feel just nasty!!!

And are unemployment rate is really high right now.

If my husband and I could get good job offers elsewhere--we'd be outta here!

I'm about 45 minutes west of Somerset, and let me tell you, the humidity is ridiculous!! I think I liked living in Florida better, it's that bad.

On top of that, the daytime and nighttime temps differ by at least 20 degrees, usually more like 30. So you sweat yourself to death during the day, then freeze your butt off at night. Temperature-wise, it's been at least high 80's for the past couple of months, with humidity at least 60%. Most times (now) it's more like low 90's with high humidity. It is so humid here, that when the temps start dropping in the evenings, it feels like it is sprinkling rain.

Kentucky is a beautiful place, but the weather sucks

My only experience with the states you picked is WI an MI and
both seemed very humid to this CA girl.....

I vote Alaska!!!!

PS. Hope you and your family are okay... let me know if I can help in any way... I'm leaving for vacation next week but will be around through wed...

West Virginia and Tennessee are humid too, but both states are beautiful! WV is more of a mining state and very mountainous. When we drove through the state last Nov. we were in awe over the scenery, but it seemed like a step back in time. There's nothing wrong with that, it just didn't appeal to me as a place to want to live.

Tennessee on the other hand, is a gorgeous state! I've driven from one side to the other and wouldn't hesitate in living there. Especially toward the Smokey Mountain side! It's gorgeous!

Now for advice on living in either of these states, I have none. Just voicing my opinion on what I saw in traveling.

Good luck to you!

Wisconsin's great! I know a few people who have moved from CA here and are nurses. There is a good market for that here. And they pay pretty good in Wisconsin. Cost of living is deffinently reasonable compared to CA. And not alot of humidity. You get a few days. Some snow. Not freezing like Alaska would be. And almost any town in Wisconsin feels like home. We're pretty good people. And the crime rate isn't bad either. Just stay away from Northside Milwaukee and some of Green Bay.

I'd also move to TN in one of the higher elevations. That keeps the humidity down and the heat down in summer. I live in GA in the mtns near the juncture of TN and NC at about 2000 ft elevation and it's cooler and slightly less humid than lower. Prices are better in TN than GA, generally. Property taxes are low, overall. And TN has no state income tax.

TN is a beautiful place, if I knew ANYONE there I'd move there. Kentucky is very nice, but TN is even better! I'm sure the weather still stinks though
