Where should I put a heat light?

Quote:
Check out the reptile section in a pet store. they have black, red and blue lights in a wide range of wattages. Same with ceramic heat emitters. Only thing is they are more expensive (2-4x more) than getting a 250w brooder lamp at the feed store.

You can buy the reptile bulbs a lot cheaper online!!

Here is one site we use for our bulbs.

If you use the ceramic infrared Heat Emitters they last up to 5 years and also do not give off any light.

The heat lamp you use to hold the ceramic heater MUST have a porcelain screw in for it!!!!!!!!

A plastic screw in will melt and also can catch on fire.

I am finding out that my chickens don't like the red heat lamps. They are staying up at night and crowing all night in the box and hang out outside the box at night before I lock up. They don't automatically go in at night any more and I have to gather them up and put them in there....They protest.
I think they are goingto get bags under their eyes if I don't act soon.
I am switching to ceramic heat emitters and see how that works.
