It is best to store them in a cool, but not cold area. Around 55 or 60 degrees is best. If you get much colder, it can kill the embryo and if it is warmer, they may start to develop and die. I wouldn't suggest keeping them any more than 1 week if you want good hatching results. Two weeks is the longest I would keep them. I like to keep ours in the garage during the spring and fall or on a back porch in the summer. Anywhere you can find a cool temperature. It is also good to turn them once or twice a day even while storing them just to keep the embryo from sticking to the shell and not forming properly. Hope that helps!

The ideal is to keep the eggs between 55-65 degrees at about 75% humidity. That's the ideal.

Except that just now it's August and in most of the country it's hot as blazes so where are you going to find temperatures like that unless you have one of those cool northern basements.

So I keep my hatching eggs in the refrigerator where it stays typically around thirty five degrees. I get good hatches anyway. Done this for years because at this time of year my home interior stays between 76-84 degrees depending on the time of day. Much better luck with refrigerated eggs than room temperature.

If you've got some place that stays in that ideal 55-65 degree range then use it. Otherwise the refrigerator works too.

Buy a small wine cooler, it's not that expensive if you buy it used.

Quyen Le, Thank you for the wine fridge idea....

I looked on Craigslist, but could only find used in CO Spgs, which is 125 miles away.
So I went to Walmart, I know, hating going there all the time, but
they had a

Haier 6-Bottle Wine Cellar, Black - $69. (rollback- was $79.!)
site to store for free!
should keep eggs right at 55°!!!!

Will pick it up when it comes in......
had been keeping eggs on the counter, & was afraid to use the
regular fridge.
Great Idea-thanks again.

Remember the humidity is important too -- reread AT hagans' s post.

I'm one of those in the northern climes with a cool moist basement.
