Where to begin...in Illinois

So, we incubated our first chick who hatched last night. We have more chicks to come. We've known that we can't keep them (going to grandparents and the lil farmer class), but it's a good project for us and my daughter, who happens to be homeschooled, so it's very educational.

Anyway, where we live you need an acre of land to have chicks. My daughter wants to try to change it. I told her I would help her, but since there's already a law here, but not many people have an acre. We have a 1/2 acre lot.

Anything we should do? Where to start? Trying to figure out how to get started.
