We've decided to get a [female] pygmy goat as a companion for my mare (yes, she has goat experience and loves them). I live in Western, NY (near Buffalo)...where can I purchase a goat and how much are they going for?

I looked up breeders, but most of the goats I found were "show quality" (and VERY expensive)...I'm looking for a friendly - good tempered doe (or female kid).

    Any help/guidence would be appreciated

Just a run of the mill pygmy can be found on craigslist...I have seen from 30 - 60 bucks....

I would try goatfinder or the local paper. If you are only looking for a horse companion, a wether doesn't stink like a buck and would probably be at least $20-$30 cheaper than a doe. Good luck!!

Ditto, Nupine. And a wether will eat less and live longer.
